NEW - This is a great way to get started on designing and making glass panels with scintillating light reflective shapes, contours and textures in both clear and coloured glass.

The process involves cutting a pattern, image or design in ceramic fibre and stacking to various depths, sheet glass is then placed on top and fired in the kiln. During the firing the glass will slump and pick up the design in the ceramic fibre to create sculpted 'bas' or low relief. You can achieve some beautiful shapes and patterns with this relatively simple process.

What you will learn

  • How to select and use your choice of design for the purpose
  • How to prepare refractory materials
  • How to design and create contour and low relief of different depths in glass
  • Appropriate firing and annealing cycles

What you will achieve

  • Several useful samples that can be the starting point for further designs
  • One completed light reflecting clear glass panel in contoured low relief

Things to bring

  • A sharp scalpel knife
  • A sharp pair of small scissors or nail scissors
  • Favourite sources of inspiration
